Jatonet Kenya Capacity Building Event 2025: Empowering Communities Through Skills, Conservation and Sustainable Livelihoods

Jatonet Kenya successfully conducted a Capacity Building Event in May 2025 as part of its ongoing programmes and volunteering initiatives. The event brought together community members, volunteers, partners and local stakeholders to promote practical skills, environmental conservation, sustainable livelihoods and inclusive education.

The capacity-building programme was designed to equip participants with knowledge and practical skills that can contribute to stronger communities, improved livelihoods and a healthier environment.

Key Areas Covered During the Capacity Building Event

🐝 Beekeeping Training

The event introduced participants to beekeeping and honey production, highlighting the potential of apiculture as a sustainable livelihood opportunity. Participants learned about the importance of bees to ecosystems, pollination, biodiversity and food production, as well as opportunities for income generation through beekeeping.

🏺 Pottery and Traditional Skills

Pottery training provided an opportunity for participants to explore traditional craftsmanship while developing practical skills for income generation. The programme highlighted the importance of preserving local knowledge and cultural heritage while creating opportunities to add value to locally available materials.

♻️ Renewable Energy

Participants were also introduced to renewable and clean energy solutions. Discussions and practical learning focused on sustainable alternatives that can help communities reduce dependence on environmentally harmful energy sources while improving access to affordable energy solutions.

🌱 Environmental Conservation

Conservation was a central component of the programme. Participants explored the importance of protecting natural ecosystems, conserving biodiversity and promoting responsible use of natural resources.

The programme also highlighted opportunities around bamboo and other sustainable resources, demonstrating how environmental conservation can go hand in hand with community development and sustainable livelihoods.

📚 Education for All

The Education for All component emphasized the importance of accessible and inclusive education as a foundation for individual and community development.

Participants discussed the role of education in creating opportunities, strengthening communities, developing skills and increasing awareness of environmental and social challenges. The programme particularly recognized the importance of ensuring that learning opportunities reach different members of the community.

Building Skills for Sustainable Communities

The May 2025 Capacity Building Event demonstrated how skills development, environmental conservation and community empowerment can work together to create lasting positive change.
