Our international and local volunteers are accommodated at our Volunteer Village in Bungoma, Western Kenya. This is more than a place to stay — it is a welcoming home where volunteers connect, share meals, exchange cultures, make friendships and become part of the community they serve.

OUR VOLUNTEER PROJECTS

1. Environmental Conservation and Bamboo Planting

JATONET Kenya promotes environmental conservation through bamboo growing and restoration activities. Volunteers may participate in raising bamboo seedlings, tree planting, nursery work, community awareness and conservation activities aimed at protecting rivers, reducing soil erosion and supporting sustainable livelihoods.

Your impact: helping communities protect the environment while creating future economic opportunities through sustainable bamboo products.

2. Climate Change Awareness and Community Education

Climate change affects farming, water access, livelihoods and the future of rural communities. Volunteers help us create awareness through community outreach, workshops, school activities and practical environmental education.

Your impact: supporting families and young people to understand climate change and participate in local solutions.

3. Cultural Tourism and Heritage Promotion

Bungoma and Western Kenya are rich in culture, traditions, stories and natural attractions. Volunteers can assist with documenting cultural and eco-tourism sites, promoting community tourism and supporting cultural exchange initiatives.

Your impact: helping preserve local heritage while promoting responsible tourism that benefits communities.

4. Organic Farming and Sustainable Livelihoods

Volunteers may participate in organic farming activities, demonstration gardens, agricultural education and community initiatives that encourage sustainable food production and income generation.

Your impact: supporting food security, environmental responsibility and stronger livelihoods for local families.

5. Waste Management and Recycling Projects

Plastic and solid waste remain a major challenge in many communities. Through school and community activities, volunteers can help promote proper waste disposal, recycling awareness and creative reuse of materials.

Your impact: creating cleaner communities and inspiring young people to protect their environment.

6. Clean Energy and Improved Cooking Solutions

JATONET Kenya supports initiatives that promote cleaner cooking technologies, renewable energy awareness and healthier household practices.

Your impact: helping communities understand energy solutions that can reduce smoke exposure, protect forests and improve everyday life.

7. Community Capacity Building and Youth Engagement

Volunteers can support workshops, life-skills sessions, educational activities, youth mentorship and community empowerment programs. We especially welcome volunteers who can share skills in teaching, ICT, entrepreneurship, communication, arts, sports, agriculture or environmental education.

Your impact: encouraging young people and communities to believe in their abilities and build a brighter future.
